The man detained in the Saif Ali Khan attack case was identified by the police as the person seen on CCTV footage from the actor’s building, according to forensic examination.

The stabbing of Saif Ali Khan was solved in large part by to facial recognition technology, which verified that the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national detained in connection with the assault was the same individual captured on CCTV at the site.

Security cameras at the high-rise building where Khan lived showed Mohammad Shariful Islam, who had entered the actor’s Bandra home on January 16 with the intention of robbing him, according to the police, who confirmed this through forensic examination.

Bandra police Analysis

The Bandra police claim that the forensic analysis, which made use of face recognition, confirmed that the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national who was detained in connection with the crime is the same one who was captured on CCTV from the Satguru Sharan building, where the actor stays.

Attack on Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan’s assault Early on January 16, Islam allegedly broke into the 54-year-old actor’s apartment on the 12th floor. When the actor confronted him, Islam allegedly stabbed him six times before escaping. Following a comprehensive investigation, the police in Thane linked Islam to the murder using forensic examination of physical evidence and facial recognition tests from CCTV footage. Islam was detained on January 19.

Facial recognition solved the case

A Bandra magistrate’s court on Wednesday denied extending Islam’s police custody, placing him under judicial remand. The judge determined that no fresh information supported additional police detention. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Komal Sing Rajput said, “At least at this stage, further police custody is not justified,” but he also told the police that they might request custody within the allotted time if new information became available.

Citing the necessity to conduct additional research on Islam’s unlawful entry into India and his financial dealings, the police had requested an extension of custody. To collect pertinent data, a team had also been sent to Kolkata. Islam allegedly changed his name from Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad to “Bijoy Das” after entering India, and investigators are still trying to find the people who helped him get over the border.

After five days, Saif Ali Khan, who had emergency surgery after the incident, was released from the hospital. Khan has not yet spoken out about the incident in public, despite his recuperation from his injuries.
