During his visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a holy bath at the Triveni Sangam. During the bathing ceremony, Mr. Modi clutched “rudraksh” beads in his palms while wearing a deep orange, full-sleeved jersey and blue pants. Mantras were being chanted.
The Prime Minister, donning a “rudraksh” necklace, prayed to the Ganga River and the Sun. Mr. Modi traveled to the Triveni Sangam, which is the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the fabled Saraswati, by boat from Arail Ghat.Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, was with him.Earlier, Mr. Adityanath greeted the PM when he arrived in Prayagraj. The Maha Kumbh, which is being hosted after a 12-year break, began on January 13 and will run until February 26.
It is regarded by Hindus as one of the most sacred pilgrimages. Millions of pilgrims have been coming from all over India and the world to attend the giant fair on the banks of the Sangam. As per the Uttar Pradesh administration, the Maha Kumbh has received nearly 38 crore pilgrims to date.

In order to take part in the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela, Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to Prayagraj on February 5, 2025. At the holy confluence of the Yamuna, Ganga, and the fabled Saraswati rivers, known as the Triveni Sangam, he took a holy dip.
PM Modi conducted prayers at several holy locations, such as Akshayvat, Saraswati Koop, and Bade Hanuman Mandir, after taking the ceremonial bath and performing puja while Vedic chants played. February 5 coincides with the Hindu holidays of Magh Ashtami and Bhishma Ashtami, making this visit significant both spiritually and culturally. By taking part, the Prime Minister demonstrates his dedication to advancing and conserving India’s rich spiritual legacy.
Days have passed since the deadly stampede at the Mahakumbh, which claimed at least 30 lives and injured several others. PM Modi had already sent his sympathies to the families who had been impacted and underlined the significance of taking precautions during such large events.
