The weight of the crowd caused a bamboo platform that had been set up during a religious ceremony in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, to collapse, leaving six persons dead and over fifty injured.
A ‘Laddoo Mahotsav’ was held today by the Jain community in Baraut, and hundreds of people came to a temple to offer laddoo, according to the police. The devotees had been placed on a bamboo platform. The crowd’s weight caused this platform to collapse.
Police and ambulance arrived at the accident point
Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after the event and took the injured to the hospital, according to Baghpat police head Arpit Vijayvargiya. Those with more severe injuries are receiving treatment, while those with lesser wounds have received first aid and been sent home.
Laddoo Mahotsav
‘Laddoo Mahotsav’ has been observed by the local Jain community every year for thirty years, according to District Magistrate Asmita Lal. A wooden building collapsed, injuring roughly forty persons. After receiving first assistance, twenty people were sent home, while others are receiving care.
According to one of the devotees, Rakesh Jain, the platform is built annually during the festival to commemorate the Jain deity Adinatha’s nirvana. “The priests went to offer laddoos and the platform collapsed, along with hundreds of devotees on it.”
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, has expressed his sorrow over the incident and urged authorities to get to the scene and expedite relief efforts. The Chief Minister has prayed for the speedy recovery of those hurt, his office added.
