Union Earth Sciences Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh urged Delhi residents to maintain composure and take safety measures.
After a low-magnitude but powerful earthquake shook Delhi and the surrounding territories on Monday, the central government issued a warning to residents about a potential “aftershock.”
Delhi residents were urged to remain composed, take safety measures, and be ready for the aftershocks by Union Earth Sciences Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation after the earthquake shocks that occurred in and around Delhi this morning at approximately 5:36 AM. Professional specialists and Ministry of Earth Sciences officials are also keeping a careful eye on the situation.
It is urged to remain composed, take safety measures, and be ready for any potential aftershocks. In the meanwhile, the department is sharing regular information on social media and through its many communication channels,” he wrote on X.
Delhi, NCR is rocked by an earthquake.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reports that the earthquake, which had a Richter scale magnitude of 4.0, struck Delhi-NCR early on Monday at a depth of 5 kilometers. At 5:36 AM, there were noticeable earthquakes.
Residents fled their homes in fright as a result of the unexpected shocks.
The earthquake’s epicentre was in Delhi, therefore the shakes felt more intense than they would have for an earthquake of magnitude four. “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 17-02-24, 5:36 AM IST, Lat: 28.59°N & Long :77.16°E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 9km E of New Delhi,” the NCS stated in a post to X.
Modi issues an aftershock warning
Residents of Delhi and the neighboring areas were asked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to maintain composure and adhere to safety procedures.
Delhi and the surrounding areas experienced tremors. Urging everyone to maintain composure, observe safety protocols, and remain vigilant for potential aftershocks. “The situation is being closely monitored by authorities,” PM Modi posted on X.
