AI-generated fake nudities
Listen, I need your help. According to authorities, a college student in Delhi got into difficulty after accepting a follow request from an anonymous user on Instagram. The user threatened to release her AI-generated fake nudities as a form of blackmail.
Nikhil, the 24-year-old suspect
In order to gain the trust of the college student he was targeting, Nikhil, the 24-year-old suspect who was arrested on Sunday, allegedly posed as a woman on social media, according to officials, who also claimed that a cunning but obscene strategy led to his detention.
According to authorities, the accused shared the victim’s profile photo with her during the discussions and reportedly altered it using an AI-enabled software. Officials emphasized that a phone number connected to his phony account was discovered through a thorough examination of Instagram conversations and the metadata supplied by Meta.
Active in Harsh Vihar, North East Delhi
The telephone was active in Harsh Vihar, North East Delhi, according to surveillance, and additional research showed that the accused had given the victim a QR code to use in order to make a payment.
The defendant had designated a chow mein seller close to his home as a payment middleman. He allegedly urged his victim to send money via a QR code connected to the seller, and the victim gave him the money.
The victim begged the suspect to have mercy
Throughout their continuous discussions, the accused demanded money from the victim. The victim begged the suspect to have mercy and refrain from posting her offensive images on social media during the conversations. But the suspect continued to force her to comply, threatening to post her phony nude photos and videos on social media if she didn’t, DCP South West Surendra Choudhary said.
The modified photographs
According to authorities, the student was forced to confide in her parents after the accused threatened to send the pictures to them, pushing her to the brink. On January 6, she finally filed a complaint, claiming that a person impersonating a lady on Instagram had harassed and blackmailed her. Sections 78 (stalking) and 319(2) (cheating by personation) of the BNS were used to register a case.
Phony Instagram account
Nikhil apparently acknowledged during interrogation that he had used the phony Instagram account for fun at first, but that he later used it as a tool for extortion. In order to stop his victim from keeping the evidence, he used artificial intelligence (AI) to create the modified photographs and shared them with her using Instagram’s one-time-view function.
The smartphone that was used to perpetrate the crime was found by the police. To find out if the accused also targeted other victims, an investigation is still underway.
